হলুদ রংয়ের হাজারো ফুল মুখ করে আছে সূর্যের দিকে। বসন্তে ফসলের ক্ষেতের এমন দৃশ্য টানছে সৌন্দর্য পিপাসুদেরও। এমন দৃশ্য চট্টগ্রামের হাটহাজারীতে কৃষিগবেষণা কেন্দ্রের বারি-তিন সূর্যমুখী প্রকল্পে।
চট্টগ্রামের হাটহাজারী উপজেলার পশ্চিম দেওয়ানপুর আঞ্চলিক কৃষি গবেষণা কেন্দ্র এলাকায় সড়কের পাশে ১ একরের বেশি জমিতে সূর্যমুখী ফুলের চাষ করা হয়েছে। সূর্যমুখীর হলুদ আভায় ছেয়ে গেছে পুরো এলাকা। বিস্তীর্ণ মাঠজুড়ে সেই নজরকাড়া দৃশ্য দেখতে বিভিন্ন এলাকা থেকে ছুটে আসছেন মানুষ।
সূর্যমুখীর তেল কোলেস্টেরলমুক্ত, ভিটামিন ‘ই’, ভিটামিন ‘কে’ ও মিনারেল সমৃদ্ধ। হৃদরোগ, ডায়াবেটিস, উচ্চ রক্তচাপ ও কিডনি রোগীর জন্যও সূর্যমুখীর তেল নিরাপদ। আর চাষও লাভজনক।
বারি তিন খাটো জাতের সূর্যমুখী, এর কান্ডও বেশ শক্ত,ফলে ঝড় ঝঞ্ঝায় ক্ষতি কম হয়।তাই এটিকে চট্টগাম অঞ্চলে চাষউপযোগী হিসেবে শণাক্ত করেছেন কৃষিবিজ্ঞানীরা।
