সেনাবাহিনীর প্রধান জেনারেল এস এম শফিউদ্দিন আহমেদ বলেছেন, বাংলাদেশ বিশ্বে শান্তিরক্ষী প্রেরণকারী দেশ হিসেবে এক নম্বর অবস্থানে রয়েছে। এ অর্জন একদিনে হয়নি। আমাদের অনেক ত্যাগ তিতিক্ষা মেনে নিতে হয়েছে।
তিনি বলেন, প্রশিক্ষণের মাধ্যমে বাংলাদেশ সেনাবাহিনীর গুণগত মান বিশ্ব পর্যায়ে নিয়ে যাবো।
সেনাবাহিনীর প্রতি বাংলাদেশের জনগণের যে আস্থা আছে সেটি আমরা সঠিকভাবে প্রদর্শন করতে চাই।
রোববার (২ জানুয়ারি) দুপুরে হবিগঞ্জের আজমিরীগঞ্জ উপজেলার শিবপাশা ইউনিয়নের পশ্চিমভাগ সরকারি মাঠে শীতবস্ত্র বিতরণ অনুষ্ঠানে তিনি এসব কথা বলেন। এসময়১৭ পদাতিক ডিভিশনের জিওসি ও এরিয়া কমান্ডার মেজর জেনারেল হামিদুল হক উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
উল্লেখ্য, সেনাপ্রধানের দিকনির্দেশনায় প্রতি বছরের মতো এ বছরও শীত মৌসুমে এলাকার অসহায় ও দুস্থ মানুষের মাঝে শীতবস্ত্র, ত্রাণ বিতরণ এবং বিনামূল্যে চিকিৎসা সেবা প্রদানসহ নানাবিধ জনসেবামূলক কাজ পরিচালনা করছে সেনাবাহিনী। সেনাবাহিনীর এ ধরনের জনসেবামূলক কার্যক্রম দুঃস্থ ও অসহায় মানুষদের শীতের প্রকোপ থেকে রক্ষা করতে বিশেষ ভূমিকা পালন করছে।
