কাতারের দোহাতে ২৫তম এশিয়ান টেবিল টেনিস চ্যাম্পিয়নশিপে অংশ নিয়েছে বাংলাদেশ। মেয়েদের ইভেন্টে গ্রুপ পর্বে ভালো করতে পারেননি সোনাম সুলতানারা। তবে স্থান নির্ধারণী ম্যাচে নেপালকে ৩-০ সেটে হারিয়েছে বাংলাদেশ নারী দল। আর আফগানিস্তানকে ৩-২ সেটে হারিয়েছে বাংলাদেশ পুরুষ দল।
নারী দলের অভিজ্ঞ খেলোয়াড় সোনাম সুলতানা ভিডিও বার্তায় বলেছেন, এই প্রথম আমরা নেপালকে হারিয়েছি। দেশে দীর্ঘমেয়াদী ট্রেনিংয়ের কারণে এমন জয় এসেছে। আশা করছি সামনের দিকে আরও ভালো হবে।’
টেবিল টেনিস ফেডারেশনের সহ-সভাপতি খন্দকার হাসান মুনীর গণমাধ্যমে জানিয়েছেন, ‘গ্রুপ পর্বে থাইল্যান্ড ও শ্রীলঙ্কার মতো শক্তিশালী দলের সঙ্গে পেরে ওঠা যায়নি। তবে স্থান নির্ধারণী ম্যাচে আমরা ভালো করেছি।’
বাংলাদেশ দলে খেলেছেন মুহতাসিন আহমেদ, মোফরাদুল সজীব, সাব্বির হোসেন, রামহিম লিয়ান বম, সাদিয়া রহমান মৌ, সোনম সুলতানা সোমা ও নওরিন সুলতানা মাহি।
