২০০৭ সালে জরুরি তত্ত্বাবধায়ক সরকারের আমলে অবৈধ সম্পদ অর্জনের মামলার বৈধতা নিয়ে বিএনপির ভারপ্রাপ্ত চেয়ারম্যান তারেক রহমানের রিট খারিজ করে দিয়েছেন হাইকোর্ট। এর ফলে তাদের বিরুদ্ধে বিচারিক আদালতে মামলা চলতে বাধা নেই বলে জানিয়েছেন আইনজীবীরা।
আজ রোববার বিচারপতি মো. নজরুল ইসলাম তালুকদার ও বিচারপতি কাজী মো. ইজারুল হক আকন্দের হাইকোর্ট বেঞ্চ এ রায় দেন।
আদালত বলেছেন, তারেক ও জোবাইদা রহমান পলাতক থাকায় রিট গ্রহণযোগ্য নয়।
উল্লেখ্য, অবৈধ সম্পদ অর্জন ও তথ্য গোপনের অভিযোগে ২০০৭ সালের ২৬ সেপ্টেম্বর রাজধানীর কাফরুল থানায় করা মামলায় তারেক রহমান, তার স্ত্রী ডা. জোবাইদা রহমান ও শাশুড়ি ইকবাল মান্দ বানুকে আসামি করা হয়। একই বছরে তারেক রহমান ও তার স্ত্রী আলাদা রিট আবেদন করেন। রিটে জরুরি আইন ও এই মামলার বৈধতা চ্যালেঞ্জ করেন। হাইকোর্ট রুল জারি করে মামলার স্থগিতাদেশ দেন। রুল জারির ১৫ বছর পর দুদকের আবেদনের পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে চলতি বছর ১৯ এপ্রিল কার্যতালিকায় আসে। পরে রুল শুনানির জন্য দিন ঠিক করেন হাইকোর্ট।
